Home About Tuition Muscle Tension Dysphonia Contact

Hello! I’m Claire - the founder and principle vocal tutor within Claire Thomas Vocal Coaching, and I run a private teaching studio just outside of Edinburgh in the picturesque village of Carlops.

I initially trained at The University of Glasgow, The Royal Northern College of Music and The University of Edinburgh before expanding my skills in vocal coaching and singing teaching with 2 further Postgraduate teaching diplomas and the Master of Education, Learning and Teaching in Performing Arts (Voice), from The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. I completed my Professional Doctorate in Elite Performance with a specialism in Muscle Tension Dysphonia in the singing voice in 2025.

I have over 25 years of experience teaching students privately and within schools, colleges and universities across Scotland. I currently lecture in singing on the BA Musical theatre degree and traditional music programmes at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and am a senior lecturer on the MA in Voice Pedagogy at Voice Study Centre.

I have performed in, directed and produced a huge variety of musical productions, am a fully qualified teacher of singing and voice, member of The Association of Teachers of Singing, The British Voice Association and the GTCS. I am currently editing my resource for singing teachers which is a combined illustrated book of the muscles of singing voice production and working with muscle tension dysphonia in the singing voice. I have recently had research articles published in The Journal of Voice, Australian Voice and the International Journal of Music and Performing Arts.
